Literature 7: Much of this week focused on unity and coherence in the novel, how the author connects various chapters and compares some of the characters and the possible reasons for doing so. This is building into the class' compare/contrast paper on the novel.
Next week, we'll finish the novel and will start discussing the compare/contrast essay. A more in-depth review of everything will follow after break as well.
Homework: Keep working on chapter questions for the novel. Everyone should be caught up to chapter 17.
Next week, we'll begin with grammar lesson 5.3 on gerunds
English 8: The class read through/discussed The Gift of the Magi and The Necklace and annotated for character dialogue, traits, interactions, reactions, etc. in preparation for its character analysis, a five-paragraph essay relating to and analyzing a single character from either story. We charted the different characters and their qualities, and have begun outlining our essays.
Next week, we'll study grammar lesson 4.6 on simple, progressive and future tenses on Monday and will spend the remainder of the week working on the rough draft of our analyses.
Homework: Character Analysis and Grammar 4.6 due Thursday, Dec. 19
