- March is Reading Month – check the reading month calendar for daily reading activities and themes for the month.
- Confirmation – We’re fast approaching Confirmation in April, so it’s important the eighth graders have their service hours completed and their Confirmation names and sponsors chosen.
Religion 8: We started Ch. 20 of Chosen this week, which focuses on the Beatitudes and living as Jesus would. On Monday we watched and began discussions on segments 1 and 2 of the program.
For next week, on Monday, we’ll watch and discuss the third segment, as well as the chapter readings. We’ll also have an additional lesson on the Beatitudes on Thursday.
Literature 7: We spent time this week discussing POV, the effect it has on story and why an author chooses a particular character to narrate the story. As part of the lesson, the class selected an important scene from the first six chapters of The Outsiders and rewrote it, still in first person, from another character’s POV.
For next week, we’ll begin by discussing their POV stories--what changes in terms of dialogue, event sequence, how the story is told and if S.E. Hinton could’ve had the same cultural impact had she chosen another character to narrate her story. We’ll also look at how stereotypes and prejudices occur and their effect on the stereotyped/prejudiced groups, characterization, and reading chapters 7-9 in the novel.
Homework: Continue working through The Outsiders booklet, finishing comprehension questions, character charts and novel vocabulary…due Friday; POV stories due Monday
English 7: In class this week we wrote our POV stories, while also working with Section 8.2 in grammar on adjective and adverb phrases (another name for infinitive, participial and prepositional phrases). Due to the snow days, vocab until 13 was pushed back until next week.
For next week, we’ll work through Sections 8.4 and 8.5 on adjective and adverb clauses, as well as finish vocab unit 13 and discuss literary analysis as it relates to The Outsiders.
Homework: Vocab unit 13 due Friday; Grammar 8.4 and 8.5 due Thursday
English 8: On Monday of this week, we wrote out the scripts to our Tik Tok grammar presentations on prepositions. We also began revisions for the final draft of the “A Change in History” essays.
For next week, on Monday, we’ll complete recording the presentations and will show them Wednesday. On Tuesday and Thursday, we’ll start discussing and writing the Confirmation letters to Fr. Jim.
Homework: Tik-Tok video script/recording due Wednesday; “A Change in History” essay due Monday
Thank you, and have a great weekend!
